Citrawan and Baby Canur– our March APE Achievers!

Thanks to your incredible support, we’re celebrating two very special orangutans. Citrawan and her precious little baby, Canur!

You might remember the fantastic news we shared a few months ago, about the birth of gorgeous little Canur. In August 2024, Citrawan welcomed her precious baby girl to the world. Her first baby, born wild and free in the Bukit Tigapuluh Ecosystem.

Citrawan and Canur’s story is a true testament to the power of your support. Citrawan was part of our adoption program and graduated from Jungle School in 2020. She is now thriving as a first-time mum, and it’s all thanks to your kindness 💕

The adorable duo did get off to a slightly rough start, with Citrawan's health deteriorating after Canur’s birth. Thankfully, our dedicated veterinary team stepped in. They rehydrated her and treated her mineral deficiency. After three days of dedicated care, Citrawan was back on her feet, ready to give her little girl the best start in life.

And now we’re happy to report, they are both doing so incredibly well! Thanks to your generosity, they are living their best lives, free and safe in the jungle.

A Loving Mum

Citrawan is proving to be a caring and attentive mother. She loves building new nests to snuggle up with Canur, sometimes even sharing them with her orangutan friend, Siti! At night, she nurses Canur and keeps her safe – always making sure her little one is protected.

Since giving birth, Citrawan has been eating more leaves and cambium. This is interesting to see with the abundance of fruit growing in the forest. This high-fibre diet has boosted her milk production though, giving Canur all the nutrients she needs to grow strong and healthy.

A Brave Little Adventurer

At just five months old, Canur is already showing signs of being a brave little explorer! Most of her time is spent clinging close to her mum’s chest or belly – but she’s also starting to venture out on her own.

She’s been spotted hanging from branches, playing with leaves and twigs, and even trying to steal food straight from Citrawan’s mouth! This curiosity is incredible to see and will serve Canur well as she learns how to survive in the forest.

Canur is also making friends, spending time with fellow orangutans Siti, Sudin, Papa Zola, and Ying. It’s heartwarming to watch her become part of her special forest community.

You Make Their Freedom Possible

We’re so proud of Citrawan and Canur – and so incredibly grateful for your support. Because of you, this beautiful mother and baby are living safe, wild, and free – just as they should be.

Thank you for being part of their journey. Your kindness is giving orangutans like Citrawan and Canur a second chance at life – and helping protect the future of their species! 🧡
