In early January this year, we shared heartbreaking news of a newly rescued baby orangutan—an 18-month-old orphan who had endured unimaginable trauma.
Today, we’re happy to share that this brave little one is doing well. And he has an adorable new name– Felix!
The name Felix means ‘happy’ and ‘lucky’. While his start in life was far from fortunate, he is indeed lucky to have been saved from a life of suffering. Felix was rescued by the Ministry of Forestry and our dedicated BORA team, after spending over six months confined in a tiny cage. His traumatic ordeal left him with wounds on his head and fingers, caused by rocking and banging his head against the cage. He also arrived at the rescue centre with anaemia and fever.
But thanks to the tireless efforts of our veterinary team and round-the-clock care from our incredible babysitters, Felix is now on the road to recovery. His wounds are healing beautifully, and his health is steadily improving. With a healthy appetite for milk, bananas, and tomatoes, he’s gaining strength every day. Felix has also begun to settle into his new environment, finding comfort in the gentle care and affection of his babysitters.
The ultimate goal for Felix—and all the rescued orangutans at our BORA rescue centre—is to prepare him for a return to the wild. Soon, Felix will join the other orphaned baby orangutans in Jungle School, where he’ll begin to learn the essential forest skills he’ll need to survive on his own. From climbing to foraging, these lessons are crucial steps in his journey back to freedom. While Felix’s path will be long, his resilience and your unwavering support give us every reason to believe he’ll thrive.
Felix’s rescue and recovery wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of our amazing supporters. Your contributions are giving this sweet boy a second chance at a life filled with joy, freedom, and the lush greenery of the forest he was meant to call home.
Thank you for being part of Felix’s journey. Together, we’re making a difference for him and countless other orangutans in need. 🌿 🧡
