Tami gains a second chance at jungle freedom

At only four years old, Tami was rescued from the illegal wildlife trade in Aceh, Sumatra. When a young orangutan is kept as a pet like Tami was, it’s very likely they have experienced extreme trauma such as witnessing the murder of their mother.  

When Tami was rescued, she had an injured thumb and a concerning bump on her head that could have been the result of being hit with a solid object. 

In addition to her physical injuries, Tami was also showing signs of stress upon her arrival at the SRA centre. This is completely understandable, given the dire situation she was found in. 

With lots of love and hands-on support from the team, Tami has been receiving the medical treatment and care she needs to recover from her injuries, and to begin her journey of rehabilitation. She is currently in quarantine, and doing very well! 

 With the support of our wonderful donors, Tami is on track to regain her freedom and return to her jungle home in the future.
