Meet Ochre- our July APE Achiever!

In February, our dedicated BORA team rescued little Ochre, who had been kept illegally as a pet alongside dogs and cats.

Little Ochre on the way to our BORA rescue centre

During the ten-hour journey to our rescue centre in Berau, East Kalimantan, BORA veterinarian Theresia tenderly cuddled this frightened little one in the back seat of our rescue vehicle.

This sweet boy was named Ochre because of the rich, beautiful colour of his long hair. Estimated to be between two and three years old, Ochre was initially very quiet and passive, barely eating during the journey and his first two days at BORA. However, he then began to perk up, becoming more active and eating well.

Now, a few months later, Ochre is thriving both physically and mentally. Thanks to the boundless love and support from our BORA staff, he has become more social and enjoys interacting with the other young orangutans at our centre. His favourite playmates, Cinta, Arto, and Harapi, are all around his age. Weighing in at 7.6kg, Ochre has also become quite the adventurer, exploring the forest near the veterinary clinic, and delighting in the search for guava fruits!

A huge thank you to our amazing donors! Because of you, innocent orphans like Ochre receive the love and care they need on their journey towards jungle freedom.
